Who's to blame for food allergies?

We tend to put that we don't experience ourselves on the margins of our vision. If you don't have a food allergy, you probably don't check the ingredients of everything you buy in the supermarket. But someone else may face the danger just out of our vision.

The most direct interaction with people with food allergies is through food labelling. But many food companies and supermarkets don't do much about allergy accident. They simply comply with the regulations and standards set by the government agencies that oversee food safety. But that's not enough. If someone has a visual impairment or some other reason for not being able to read, they will not be able to avoid an allergic incident, because allergies are not expressed in any other way than by simply highlighting them in small print.

I wanted to bridge the gap between information and understanding for a small subset of consumers - to find a way to make important information easy to understand and act upon. So I created stamper that combines with textured plates depicting common allergens to create a tactile, non-visual language for communicating food allergies. Through this work, I hoped to make a problem experienced by a small number of consumers relatable to other people, and to call for diversification in the way allergy labelling is done.
